ABOUT US

Why would an Italian roast coffee on the isle of Java?   History !

While coffee may have originated in Africa, only small amounts were traded to Europe via the Arab port of Mocha. In the early 1600's Pieter Van der Broeke, a trader for the Dutch East India Company (VOC) in Mocha "acquired" some seedlings which were sent back to Holland for cultivation and study. Botanist Carlus Linnaeus named the seedlings Coffea arabica.

By the early 1700's plants were sent to the VOC plantations in Java and Sumatra. The quality of the coffee beans from these plantations was so good, that this region effectively controlled the world coffee market for some 200 years. The terms "Java" and "coffee" became synonymous. In fact the history of commercial coffee is closely tied to the history of this region.

Arguably the best commercial Arabica coffee in the world still comes from the highland plantations along the Indonesian archipelago which includes the isles of Java and Sumatra.
       "Great coffee needs great beans".

By setting up in Java with its coffee traditions, we are close to the plantations and estates along the Indonesian archipelago and the fine beans they produce. Hence our “JAVA FROM JAVA” motto.

Indonesian coffee is typically described as full bodied, slightly acidic but with rich earthy tones. We apply modern roasting and blending techniques to give a mellow, easy drinking coffee that you can enjoy anytime of day. The beautiful full flavor is what makes our coffee special. Our signature blend, “Sumatran Mellow” is typical.

When buying our beans we support socially responsible practices in our growing region. As Quintino’s grows as a coffee company we hope to be a pro-active influence in this area.

Introducing a new coffee innovation, “Q bags” ,

Quintino’s single serve coffee bags brew a fresh cup of real coffee every time.

At Quintino’s our foremost driver is consistent quality. We believe our coffee bags offer the most convenient way to make a real coffee, available in the market today. So now there is no reason you cannot have a real coffee anytime / anywhere.

Ideal for that fresh cup of coffee for breakfast.

As any Italian will tell you, the ceremony of making a cup of coffee is half the fun.
While our coffee bags are not meant to replace the barista and café style cappuccino, they do offer a real coffee alternative to instant. Our hope is that they put some of the ceremony and fun back into your breakfast or office coffee break.
